In the Maras Moray and Salineras tour we will visit a part of the Sacred Valley route, from Chinchero we will be able to enjoy a beautiful view of mountains and snowy peaks including the Veronica snow-capped mountain. In Moray we will observe circular platforms known as the Inca laboratory center and the salt mines where salt has been extracted since Inca times.

Highlights

Chincheros: Chinchero is approximately 30 minutes away. from Cusco, was the birthplace of the Peruvian independence hero Mateo Pumacahua in 1814, is located at an altitude of 3754 meters above sea level. Declared as Historical Patrimony of Peru on December 28, 1972, the archaeological park has an extension of 34,800 hectares, the Archaeological Zone was built by the Inca Tupac Yupanqui, who planned the construction of palaces for the elite.

Maras Moray: is located about 7 km southwest of Maras. These are gigantic natural holes in the surface of the land that were used to build terraces or agricultural terraces with their respective irrigation canals, it is known as a biological experimental station quite advanced for its time that helped the settlers of the time.

Salineras: “salt mines”. Consisting of about 3000 small wells with an average area of about 5 m², in times of drought are filled or “watered” every 3 days with salt water emanating from the earth’s surface located at the top of the wells, so that when the water evaporates, the salt contained in it gradually solidifies, then the salt is beaten and thus granulated.

Finally we will be returning to the city of Cusco at 2:30 p.m. approx.

Day 1: Maras Moray Tours

At 8.30 am. We start to pick you up at your hotel to begin our adventure to Chincheros.

In Chinchero at 3780 m.s.n.m. where we will visit its traditional market and be part of its culture and crafts.

Continuing to the circular terraces of Maras Moray and make a colorful tour, passing through very typical villages and beautiful landscapes that we can enjoy. Moray is a set of huge terraces that overlap concentrically in a gigantic pit, these beautiful terraces that served in Inca times as an agricultural laboratory “Greenhouse Prototype”.

Finally, we will visit the salt mines located northwest of the town of Maras, which consist of about 2000 small wells with an average area of about 5 m², exploited since Inca times, Colonial times and still being exploited by the locals. After our visit we will return to the city of Cusco.
